Just wondering what everyones goals are here as far as Guitar/music go? and have they changed much over the months/years of playing guitar?
Edit: maybe this should be moved to seasoned guitarist?

Hey Bill!

Nah this forum is fine. :)

I'd like to be able to play like John Petrucci in the youtube Psycho Videos, playing a billion notes per minute. haha just kiddin.

My main goal is to make an official cd, whether solo or with a band, preferrably with a band. I've been in tons of short projects/bands, but something always seems to come up that prevents us from going long term. So we'll see what the future holds I guess, but that's definitely a goal I'd like to accomplish sometime.

When I first got into playing, I wanted to be the best guitarist in the world lol.
Over the years my priorities have certainly changed in regard to my goals. Ultimately, I would
like to become more focused in expressing my TRUE emotions through the medium of music and
in particular through the guitar. My goal as a player is to transcend technical limitations and play on a
much higher plane. Musically, my goal is to communicate my emotions to the listener as well as I possibly can and inspire them in any way possible.

Nice thread Bill!

Good question.

For me it would be to continue sharing and helping aspiring musicians in any way I can. This will probably lead me to just continue teaching. Maybe I'll try get work in a university some day or even in a high school if I can stand the little rascals.

As a performer I have no real aspirations other than making people enjoy what I have to offer.

Oh yea, and learn to play with my teeth ;)

edit;

As for goals changing over time. I have to admit, like rick, I began with the intention to become some monster of guitar. Over time though I realized this was more about ego than passion. Since then It has been less about being 'great' and more about being happy with what I do. Thankfully I am very happy with what I do, even though there are still things I cant do and wish I could.

Hmmm, good question.

Right now, my main goal as far as music is concerned is to just do what I love doing.

I wouldn't mind being a private teacher, as well as a touring musician and studio guitarist. I will also continue my music education and see how far I can get in it before I have to declare bankruptcy from all the student loan debt I will put myself in. :p I would also like to really get into doing film scores and writing string quartet pieces as well.

Basically to sum it all up: to take my abilities beyond just guitar playing and be a true musician and way possible.

I try not to look too far ahead and just really focus on the here and now and take everything one day at a time.
