Progressive solos

hi there... i don t like so much the subdivison between beginners and avanced,i post this topic here cause i would like to learn something about john petrucci style ,that it s not a beginner .. he 's one of my favourite guitar player,and my question is about my favourite guitar solo of dream theater "under a glass moon"...i know the techniques that he uses in the solo but my question is: what are the exercises that i must do to develop a phrasing more complete,not always the same "games",the same "geometry"?and what are the points of the solos in which he plays the bending?only for every modulation ,3 for which i know in "under a glass moon solo" or also in other parts of the solo? i hope that you understand my question and that you provide a good answer ..anyway let me know something
