Anybody into this show? I actually think it’s pretty entertaining! In this season my two favorite contestants are David Archuleta and David Cook. Those guys have excellent voices. Both of them will go far whether they win the season or not. Anybody else follow the show?

I’ve never watched the American version but I always watch the British version which has evolved over the years and is now called X Factor. Hugely entertaining show especially in the early audition stages. I find it tends to lose impetus during the proceeding weeks where it’s drawn out as much as possible but still very entertaining stuff.

Nope, I’ve never seen a full episode, but the 3 or so parts I’ve seen of it, I didn’t like too much, largely because I don’t like pop music or reality TV, so combine the two and I’m extra repulsed :P.

Some of the people do have awesome voices. But I love the ones who make fools of themselves on national television.

    same here,

allthough i know that are many good singers that participate in that show.

    Same here.

Although some of them do have great voices, it’s all a popularity contest. It’s not really about who has the best voice, but who is the most marketable to the masses.

And it’s those kinds of things that really turn me away.

sadly, thats what passes for “music” nowadays, its like nobody cares about playing an instrument anymore, all anyone cares about is singing. its bubblegum pop, recycled crap force fed to the unthinking masses. and its really sad.

The bit that gets me (however ridiculous this might be) is that half those folks will throw the horns sometimes, which leads people who couldn’t tell you who Ronnie James Dio is throwing the horns.

It reminds me of an onion article.

Yeah I know what you guys mean. It is pretty much a popularity/singing contest, but it still has a lot of cool music elements as well. They have a killer backup band that plays live every week too. And this season some of the contestants have been playing instruments while they sing. Very cool stuff.

I used to avoid anything pop-related too, but I don’t really mind it much anymore, I actually enjoy it. It’s still not stuff I’d listen to on my own time, but still pretty fun to listen to on the show.

There was a Battle of the Bands show on BodogTV (I don’t know if this is an actual channel, it was on at a bar was at one night when I was bored so I watched it) and it was more appealing to me because they had all sorts of music acts playing original music. AI is basically a huge popularity contest.

But what I despise most about AI is that it distracts so many people from what is actually important. IMO they should hold a huge American Idol Live Marathon on every election day lol .
