Hello, I am trying to learn guitar fore the 4th time. I did know a few chords previously, but I’ve forgotten them. What cords do you recommend beginning with? Thank you!
Don’t know if you ever got an answer to this. The question is a little bit like saying, “I want to learn english – which words should I learn.” Memorizing a handful of chords does not make a guitar player. That being said, there are some good “open” chords (chords that essentially make use of the nut or the top of the fretboard to make the chord) that are a good starting point:
E Maj
E Min
E7
E Min7
A Maj
A Maj7
A7
A Min
A Min7
G Maj
C Maj
C Maj7
D Maj
D Maj7
D7
D Min
D Min7These are easily found here: http://guitarchordsguru.com/chord-charts/open-chords/.
Pay close attention to E Maj, Emin, E7, Emin7, A Maj, AMaj7, A7, AMin and AMin7. The reason is that these ‘shapes’ can be moved up and down the neck with your first finger as a barre “essentially acting as the nut” to make a lot more chords.. these would be called barre chords. A little bit of google will fill in the details.
Good luck~

June 2, 2008 at 4:55 am #18552shredmandanParticipantYou know i dont think i have ever got to play a scheter before ,but man do they make some beautiful guitars that especially look good for metal .I wonder what the deal is with the neck because i’ve heard that a couple of times from people.I like a thin neck thats easy for shred but really in between a very thin Jackson dk2 neck to a fender stratocaster neck is good for me.I dont like a really round neck but kinda in between or thinner. Also alot of the scheters in the $400 + range come with Grover tuner’s which are really good quality
June 1, 2008 at 4:28 am #18550shredmandanParticipantPantera was a big influence on my playing after i moved on from Metallica.I think Dime was a great guitarist and to me he started his own style.I dont think there is really another band that sounds just like them. Its kinda like how Korn is in a style of its up Dime made that for Pantera i fill.
True there are so many better guitarist ,but thats the case with anybody if you really think about it.

Im suprised schecter resale value would be low. They have been around for a good while. They started out making parts for the guitar and working with Fender. Its a pretty interesting story how there buinsess has made it where it is today.I definatly like alot of there guitars especially th C1 that has vine inlays down the neck.
May 28, 2008 at 2:42 am #18510shredmandanParticipantOne of my favorite metal riff’s is pretty simple if your good with your right hand.Metallica’s ‘One’ right when it changes to the vicious double bass thrash then the solo comes in over it.Very nice and ofcourse there are many other’s but thats one for now.
May 28, 2008 at 2:38 am #18509shredmandanParticipantThanks all for your replys.I do like the Ibanez aswell,im not sure if the Artist series would be really meant for shred and metal havent really seen them.I do know the RG Series would be great but they go high in price aswell for the quality.
Here is a Peavey Tracer im bidding on that i talked about in post. The white one looks really great for Metal, cant say i believe its really signed by Ted Nudget but thats no why i even want it http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=330239238467&ssPageName=STRK:MEBI:IT&ih=014

May 26, 2008 at 2:10 am #18490shredmandanParticipantYes i had been actually watching these for awhile on ebay, but i questioned how well they were made along with wondering if using a 7 string would throw me off on lead playing and make it harder.Anyway i am starting to definatly consider getting one of these just to use for rythem playing so i dont have to tune down.
ThanksMay 20, 2008 at 10:48 pm #18400shredmandanParticipantWelcome again see you around the site
May 20, 2008 at 3:56 am #18393shredmandanParticipantLiked it especially demo 2.Its got that great Thrash sound i like!
May 18, 2008 at 4:59 pm #18372shredmandanParticipantThanks Sean, but for some reason the site didnt work.Maybe its down right now?Defintly would love to find some already made drum beats.I found a thing for fuity loops but you had to make your own drum beats and im definatly no drummer.
May 18, 2008 at 6:22 am #18368shredmandanParticipantI would really like to have some double bass metal drums at around 120bpm.Just something i could jam and make up riff’s too.If you could do something like that i would really apperciate.
ThanksMay 17, 2008 at 4:49 pm #18362shredmandanParticipantWelcome
