I seem to remember watching that video a while ago. It’s the holy grail of all amps!

Yeah, I’m responsible for at least 50 of the views that video has got.
Just ordered a Ceriatone Overtone Special, hoping that it will sound roughly the same with some tweaking 🙂

Eric Johnson is a Dumble user but he uses the Steel String Singer (so did SRV). I think the guys who use the Overdrive Special are Robben Ford, Larry Carlton, Carlos Santana and Sonny Landreth.

I believe that you are correct! 😉

As I recently said in these very IG-forums, Robben Ford had the BEST live overdriven lead guitar-sound I’ve EVER HEARD at a performance he did at a Fender Artist Show I saw at the NAMM show back in 2002! I later found out that he was using the Dumble Overdrive Special at the time (and still is, I think?!?) 😎

BTW, what’s the fundamental difference between those two Dumble models (Overdrive Special and Steel-Stringer?) Do you know if SRV and/orEJ used/uses their Dumbles for an overdrive sound or a clean sound? :confused: Either way, do you know if either guy stuck any pedals in-front of them? I remember Robben Ford’s tone as being VERY pure (like NO EFFECTS that I can remember anyways?) Just curious? :confused: 😉

I believe the Steel String Singer is a 100W head with no designated Overdrive channel…its just bloody loud! (I could be wrong). I’ve got Eric Johnson’s Total Electric Guitar DVD where his rig is basically 2 Fender Twin Reverbs (for Clean), the Dumble SSS for a “dirty clean” rhythmn tone..which I still feel is the greatest tone I’ve ever heard in my life…never heard anything like it. And he uses a Marshall Plexi for his lead tone. I think he adds a Fuzz to the Dumble SSS for some lead bite at times.
As far as Robben Ford goes….he only uses the Dumble ODS when gigging in the USA. When he tours abroad he apparently uses Fender Twin Reverbs along with the Hermida Zendrive to get the “Dumble-like tone”…..hence the Zendrive having the reputation as the Dumble ODS clone.
I do know that SRV would mostly use an Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer infront of his Fender Twins, Dumble SSS and ?Bassman for his solo tones…..
I could be wrong on a few of these things…would require more internet research.
p.s-now I know why I suck on the guitar…..If only I’d practice instead of this nonsense!

Here’s my new Dumble Clone, the overtone special! I’m going to post a couple of clips, but until then you’ll have to take my word on it, this sounds amazing!

Don’t be alarmed, I knew about the tolex. I know a guy who builds cabinets, and he’s going to biuld me a 1×12 combo out of it in a matchless look 🙂

Hi guys,

I agree with Bill, Legatofix. Besides, as much as I enjoy playing my guitar, I am equally fascinated with all the gear, and in the history of its’ usage. I found your research to be most interesting.
One has to be at least reasonably well versed on amplifiers and overdrive pedals, and pickups, etc in order to narrow ones’ search for the ultimate quest of their own personal “holy grail” tone.
And while you’re reading up on all the equipment, throw in some practice time to make the hands an equally integral part of “making tone”, lol.

What exactly does Ceriatone make? Just the actual amp? Or the enclosure ect too? I couldn’t figure anything out from their site…

You can order just the amp, or the amp with head cab, or combo cab, with or without speakers.
You can also order the kit, and put it together yourself. 🙂

Ah, I get it now. Just been looking around their site, a lot of the stuff seems like ridiculously good value, I might just have to start saving for one of the lower wattage heads! It seems English Valve Amps do a similar thing too. In the meantime, I’m starting to get some nice tone out of Guitar Rig 4. I’m getting a relatively Dumble-esque tone by driving…an AC30!
