*tha question in the title is rhetorical*
as you all know… today is December 8th, 2008

I don’t know how many of you know what happened this day 4 years ago..
but I guess you are all familiar with the occasion..

Dimebag Darrell (R.I.P) was murdered this day, 4 years ago, in a concert by a mental ill “fan”..
I’m only 18, and even I remember the day it happened..
still remember the shock.. and then the thinking of how he was, and how will it be today
    if he stayed alive…
I think that day we as a music fans.. and as music creators if we can call it that way..
lost one man that was no one like him…

anyway, This day right.. December the 8th…
remember John Lennon [R.I.P]?….. yeah yeah.. he murdered too on 12-08..
28 years ago the world was shocked and people all around the world mourned for one of the best musician ever…

    on that note…
today is Marty Friedman – former Megadeth lead guitar player, also played with tones of others
among them the amazing Jason Becker… which is one of the best inspiration you can find.. – Birthday šŸ™‚
    so Happy Birthday Marty!

ALSOOO, today is Jim Morrison (R.I.P) Birthday..

anyway.. for me, From all the above Dimebag meant the most.. I have an urge to ear sad music
and to play some Pantera tunes..

    Rest In Peace.

    Hey RoEm, šŸ™‚

Thanks for the reminders! Lennon was my favorite Beatle, and Dime was always my favorite “metal” guitarist! šŸ˜‰

John Lennon started his Beatle career as a prolific pop-songwriter and performer, and later evolved into a socially-conscious, peace-seeking humanitarian, who undestood the amazing healing power of music! I think what most people DO NOT realize about Lennon (and The Beatles as a band) is that he/they were tireless in their work-ethic and produced an incredibly impressive and important body of work from 1962 to 1969. Go look up their recorded body of music from ’62 to ’69 and (regardless of your opinion of The Beatles) I think you’ll be nothing short of impressed! šŸ˜®

Darrell “Dimebag Abbott was truly “one-of-a-kind!” Dime’s unique blend of “Hetfield-approved-brutal-riffing” Rhythm-Guitar approach, coupled with his nimble-fingered “Van Halen meets Vai” Lead-Guitar approach was truly “the best of both worlds!” Think about it?!? The players you usually associate with great “rhythm-guitar” abilities, usually are NOT the same subset of players you’d associate with the best “lead-guitarists.” Correct?!? Sure there a re a few rock-guitarists in history who might be considered both great rhythm & lead players, but the list is short, isn’t it?!? (Maybe Jimi Hendrix, EVH, and Dime!) However, for me to quantify Dime’s style by comparing him to James Hetfield and Eddie Van Halen (as impressive as those comparisons are!) is actually sort of short-sighted and unfair. Dime was TRULY one-of-a-kind, and from all accounts, was an incredibly warm, humble, and unselfish person “off-the-stage” as well! šŸ˜Ž

May all of the “late-great” musicians who are NOT with us any more, REST IN PEACE! šŸ™‚

    Peace! šŸ˜€
