I’ve been thinking about taking a lesson or 2 with Greg for a while now, I didn’t realise he offered a free trial lesson.
That is good to know šŸ™‚ I was a little skeptical about the whole thing, but I think I’ll definitely go ahead and try book a trial lesson.
What are you planing on studying with him, fusion stuff I take it?

Never knew he did web lessons, I have his Hyperacuity album. Awesome guitarist, I had the cd for a long time. I don’t even remember how I got it. I think I found it in a used cd rack somewhere. Col Hicks, how’d the lesson go? Hopefully you walked away with something inspiring.

    Hello all, šŸ™‚

I just wanted to add that my friend/teacher Ethan Brosh (who has an excellent 80’s-shred instrumental album called: Ethan Brosh – Out Of Oblivion on Magna Carta Records – for those who like an “Yngwie-meets-Greg Howe-meets/Iron Maiden without vocals” sort of thing!!!) took a couple of lessons from Greg Howe, and he said it was GREAT! He basically said that seeing Greg play up-close and in-person (Ethan took his couple of lessons in-person, NOT via Web/Skype.) made hime realize just how awesome and effortlessly Greg plays! Also, as a teacher, Ethan said that Greg is very cool in that he’s laid back in his demeanor, but he has an ability to cut right to the stuff that you need and articulate it to you in layman’s terms which are easily understood. Another thing that Ethan said about Greg Howe’s teaching is that he places extreme importance/emphasis on timing-precision and groove! I guess no matter how over-the-top the lick/phrase/sequence might be, it’s gotta groove! I LIKE THAT! šŸ˜Ž Perhaps this explains part of the reason why he got such groove-intensive gigs as Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake – Seriously! šŸ˜Ž In fact, for what it’s worth, I believe that this timing-precision quality is one of the common characteristics of ALL OF THE Infinite Guitar Instructors too (Rick Graham, Tom Quayle, Richard Lundmark, and their fearless leader – Sean Conklin!) They ALL have that in their playing, and they all demonstrate it in their tutorials (whether they articulate it as part of the lesson itself or not. It’s ALWAYS there!) šŸ˜‰ I believe as students, we’d all be very wise to try to emulate such groove and rhythmic-precision (short of becoming robots of course!) I’ve often thought that this is one area that seems to separate the “men-from-the-boys” so-to-speak – LOL! Other phenoms who seem to possess this strength are: Guthrie Govan, Marco Sfogli, Brett Garsed, Al DiMeola, Paul Gilbert, Eddie Van Halen, Trevor Rabin, Allan Holdsworth, Zakk Wylde, Andy Timmons, and many others! šŸ˜€ (You might notice that this list shows a mixture of staccato/”picker types” as well as legato/”non-picker types.” My point being that you don’t have to “pick-every-note” to play with “rhythmic-precision!” Cases-in-point: Greg Howe, Tom Quayle and Brett Garsed: Three “Groove-monsters” who all use quite a bit of hybrid-picking and legato techniques! šŸ˜Ž

Best of luck to all of you guys who decide to partake in the Greg Howe Web-Lessons! šŸ˜‰ As Richard Lundmark would say: Get your groove on! šŸ˜Ž

    Hi Bill,

Just to let you know that I spotted Ethan playing at a stand at NAMM so spent some time watching him tearing up the fretboard! He sure is a great player. I didn’t get to meet him but if you get the chance, tell him I really enjoyed watching him play.

    Cheers mate!

andy just relax the guy is really easy going , and explains everything clearly just try to forget its greg howe teaching you šŸ™‚

Hey. Just thought I would give a little update. Had my lessons with Greg last night! Totally awesome! We talked about his approach to lead playing. Basically covered combining arpeggios with scale playing and superimposing other arpeggios over chords ie. say an F#m7b5 over an Am7 chord. Very cool stuff. He explained that about 87% of his playing comes from this sort of playing. This was good to know since I think people always expect players of that calibre to have lots of hidden secrets about how they play the way they play. His explanations are great and he seems like a genuinely nice guy. I have another lessons booked next month and I would reccomend anyone to do the same!
