Not what you might be thinking, but I was doing some carpentering today, and after being very careful all day, I finally belted my index finger (fretting hand) with the hammer, there was blood everywhere, it hurt something fierce, it’s sought of black and blue now, and not bending the best, as it seems to be swelling a little. It could have been a lot worse, as it wasn’t a direct hit as it were, more a grazing thing, just missing the nail (yeah, the one on my finger as well) and taking out the fleshy part. Was looking forward to playing this weekend to šŸ™

Be careful with hammers people, they are not your friend.

[Edit]Sorry about that, This was supposed to go in General Discussion, don’t know what happened there, maybe the blow with the hammer done more damage than I thought. Could one of you nice Moderator type people move this please.

Should have moved this to the ‘accident & emergency forum’ but we don’t have one so it’s ended up here.

Yeah, I’ve done that before and it’s not pleasant. Take it easy with it and don’t try to play too early, gotta let the recuperation process take place.

    I know how you feel.

Over the holidays I hit my thumb with a hammer, pinching it right on the underside of my thumb on the fretting hand. It was impossible to play for about a week šŸ™
Luckily I used that time to brush up on some piano skills !

Best to let it heal in its own time, don’t force yourself to play until it’s feeling good again.

Maybe you could use that extra time to work on your aural skills. Sing scales and arpeggios, and just play them lightly on the guitar to check if your hitting the right notes. ( this stuff is good regardless of injury )

Thanks fella’s, I will be giving the scale singing a try, as I have been seeing it pop up regularly around the place, so I guess it is useful, may take a little getting used to though. Been looking through some of the other tutorials that I may otherwise have just skipped over, like Sean’s one on warm up exercises etc, something that I will be endeavoring to make a habit of from here on in.

It’s hard looking at some of the other more playing orientated tutorials, they just make you want to pick up the guitar and play, which I have done a couple of times, but it is fairly short lived. Best to leave it alone for a bit as you say, should only be a couple more days I hope.
