Hey guys, i recently joined a band and all the guys are really good with their instruments, they have been playing around as much as me, which is a little more than 2 years and we’re really good at our instruments for that amount of time. I decided that we should start playing some Dream Theater songs to get even better but some DT songs are definately out of our reach, due to technique, speed, difficulty, gear etc.

And this is why im asking some suggestions of “do-able” DT songs, songs that do not have 7 string guitar riffs, very unusual tunings, and stuff , something that we can nail easily or with hard work ( which would be good, because our goal is to get better ).

    Well thanks ! šŸ˜€

“Overture 1928” from Scenes from a Memory might be a good instrumental for starters. The track after, “Strange Deja Vu”, might work too. Both songs have some good trademark DT sound but aren’t at a crazy difficulty level. Most of their slower songs aren’t too bad either.

Be sure to post some recordings if you guys ever make some covers!

ah one more question Sean, what can we do if the bass used in the songs is a 6 string or 5 string bass? my bassist only has a 4 string bass… any ideas..? hehe
