Plus, I’ve always had very short fingernails – (bad habit of biting-nails!) – so that probably helps a bit too. Thanks for the ideas!

Bad habits of shy musician pay off in the end :p I’m biting my nails as well;-)

Coop sumed it up for you. Both are quite important, but not the only means of learning to play guitar. There is also improvising, jamming, theory and even songwriting. If you have trouble with particular songs, it often pays off to do some exercises involving techniques used in the song, so it is very beneficial to exercise.

The guys above told you all the answers. I’m using .10 gauge, and it’s quite easy for me to bend whole – 1.5 steps, and with some effort I can pull a 2 step bend so I imagine with .9 it should be very easy.
Bill I figured that I’m actually using that technique, but isn’t it that the average bending technique? I’ve never actually noticed if my way of bending (well yours as well) is any different from other players way of bending.- September 25, 2008 at 1:12 pm

That´s great news man! It could be very nice if there were some videos from that show. Is there any chance that you would play in Europe ?

Hey AJ, check out Sean’s tutorial on his song – Farenheit (insert number which I don’t remember here). It has got some tasty arpeggios that you might want to learn, and he shows how to play them very well in his video (mixolydian and diminished arpeggios I believe). It made playing arpeggios for me a lot easier than before.

I´d say that being able to play downstrokes fast ain´t much to do with being a great rythm guitar player. Sure they can be fast, but there´s other stuff to it than being fast.
Death Magnetic was too much of an expectation. They just made a mediocre album, and I think that´s what should have been expected. Some riffs are allright, some riffs are awkward, rythm seems quite frantic, and not really connected at some points, solos vary from mediocre to quite aweful and generally I had a feeling, that this was some high school starting band and an estabilished band. Too bad, really. Oh and End of the Line contains melody lines from Sad but True. Verse vocals.- September 15, 2008 at 9:34 pm

Check out The Ninth Gate by Robert Polanski. Some crazy scary, and REALLY mysterious stuff. I really loved it. Gotta check out Rec then

Errr I can play mop with downpicking only as well but I´m not a killer rythm guitar player, and I never really saw either James or Kirk as great rythm guitar players. Though they came up with some catchy lines.

I’m going through Nevermore right now – Dead Heart In a Dead World and Enemies of Reality mainly.
I’d like to get to know fusion a bit more, could someone post his favourite artists / bands so I could have some homework?

It is interesting. It has some good stuff that I liked from load, but still quite fresh and new. Also frankly I liked the drumming in this song. I like it.

He is great, I like his style and the way he expressions himself with help of instrument, but I must admit, the first time I saw him do that trumpet sound I was laughing 😉 it really looks hilarious 😉 . Stevie Wonder is maybe a lil too obvious influence in his songs, but he is without doubt greatly skilled and I love the way he harmonizes his singing parts with his guitar playing.

Thanks man.
You bet I was heavily influenced by Megadeth, though not only. There was Led Zeppelin, Nevermore, some Jag Panzer and generally all music that gets my attention in some way, influences me.

I love the atmosphere and riffs in “Scullkrusher” by Overkill.
Also most riffs from Rust In Piece by Megadeth are cheesey. For example I love the 5/8 riff/solo in Five Magics. Simple, yet addictive.
