It is SO cool to see this kind of thing is now democratized.

Reaper might be what you are looking for. Not exactly freeware, but the license allows you to try it as long as you want, so you may be able to tinker and play with it. The license for use is not expensive though, in case you use it regulary. You should check it out. Here: http://www.reaper.fm/index.php

Yeah, but the Gmajor boost is a volume boost that goes in the Fx loop, that’d be a clean boost. I was referring to a boost prior to the preamp, to push the tubes a little harder and get some more gain out of it, sort of what you would use the Tubescreamer for.

I actually ended up getting the GSP1101 and I’m not regretting it one bit. It’s a GREAT bang for the buck, it’s constantly being updated and you can even load your own Impulse responses on it. Great unit. As for the amp switching, I really think I don’t need that. I’ve got it on a crunchy setting, change a patch and I add more gain with a OD in front of the amp, and if I need a clean sound, I just roll the volume down on the guitar. I’m starting to believe there’s really no need for a lot of channels, 2 is plenty and at the moment I’m just using one and it’s enough.

Did they manage to destroy the One Ring?

Joking aside, that is one of the most extreme things I’ve ever seen…

Well, if you educate yourself, you can do much more. Composing, arranging, teaching at a school, those are just a few.

Mike Mangini would be a fine replacement, it’s true.

Unlike Sean, I did enjoy the last few albums, except for “Black Clouds and Silver Linings”. That one didn’t really click for me, but as for the rest, I liked the production and overall attention to detail. Also, the melodies in the last few albums (ever since Ruddess came along) have improved greatly, and the melodic content has matured album after album.

So, in light of the fact that I liked the direction of the band ever since Metropolis Pt2, I am truly upset about this. Not angry, just sort of sad. I wish the rest of the guys would have given Mike a (much needed) rest. After all, he is the one behind the touring, production, drumming and all around management of the band.

Anyways, time will tell how this develops. But I was shocked to say the least.

Getting into Jazz without learning to read music will be difficult. The Jazz scene is based around the idea of playing over standards and reading lead sheets. I understand that this is not what you’re looking for, but that’s how the genre works.

    However:

    http://www.amazon.com/Beginning-Jazz-Guitar-Book-DVD/dp/073902406X/ref=sr_1_3?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1279396609&sr=1-3

That might point you in the right direction. It includes tabs. But, just as a recommendation, you may want to learn to read music. If you do, get this book:

    http://www.amazon.com/Berklee-Press-Modern-Method-Guitar/dp/B001UH10F6/ref=sr_1_2?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1279396665&sr=1-2

It’s the book used at Berklee for the Guitar alumni. It teaches how to read music, along with what you’re looking for. Scales, arpegios, etc. As for theory, you need a harmony book, or maybe the Aebersold books on improvising. Those are gold, here’s the link: http://www.jazzbooks.com/

    Good luck.

The new AIC is awesome! I’m really digging “Last of my kind” right now. What a great tune! And you’re right about the guitar tone. It’s just killer.

Yeah, I’ve seen the Chad Vader. His rendition of Chocolate Rain was pure awesome!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!
