    Hello All, šŸ™‚

As most of you probably know by now, I LOVE Guthrie Govan’s playing/music! šŸ˜® šŸ˜‰

Anyways, last summer, (2009) my friend & teacher Ethan Brosh’s sister Nili Brosh, had the opportunity to sit-in with and play along-side her hero Guthrie Govan, who was guesting with the Jon Finn Group at Berklee College of Music’s 939-Cafe (in Boston, MA – U.S.A.) Since Nili had posted a video of herself playing Guthrie’s “Wonderful Slippery Thing,” on YouTube (playing on top of a backing-track) Guthrie had full confidence in her abilty to play the song with him live. (Plus, we all know what a cool guy Guthrie is!) I figured I’d provide this link of them playing. Disclaimer: It’s got the typical camcorder-audio deficiencies, so the mix isn’t so great. šŸ™ A couple of things come through though: 1.) As I said in my review of Guthrie’s recent concert here in Cambridge, (Boston) MA – U.S.A. – Guthrie plays with a MUCH cleaner tone than most instrumental-guitarists! He’s like the Malcolm Young of SHRED!!! (LOL!) This only articulates his genius even more, as you can hear EVERY little thing he does…a thought TERRIFYING to most players, but a JOY for him!!! 2.) Nili did a helluva-job all things considered. Remember folks, she’s only 21-years-old! Things like tone and phrasing are exactly the things that will improve with her as she matures and improves! BTW, check out the unison-run her and Guthrie nailed just before the breakdown-part from: (2:50 – 2:55) Very nice! My favorite moment I think is when Guthrie and Nili are “trading-fours” back-and-forth, and for a while Guthrie is playing slide (as if the other 15-styles he nails aren’t impressive enough?!? Christ!!!) But then Nili does a sort-of Greg Howe “tap-replacement-sequence-lick” (Well…that’s what I call it anyways!) Then Guthrie reminds her who’s the boss with a RIDICULOUS tapping-foray (from 4:37 – 4:47) that tears the roof-off-the-place! Check out the look on her face as Guthrie drops-THAT-bomb! It’s classic! It was so evident that they had a lot of fun playing, and kudos to Guthrie for enabling another young player’s dream! šŸ˜Ž
