That guitar is not safe, Rick. I’ll somehow figure out where you live and…

    Arh. It’s a beauty!

I’m torn on the design of this axe.
The body looks sexy and sleek.
Is that scratchy worn look on the neck deliberate?

I hope to see/hear it in action at some point Rick.
    Mike.

Love it Rick! So sleek, and sounds killer from what I’ve heard.

Like Mike, I’m curious about the back of the headstock and neck. Not sure if it’s dust and dirt or if the light is hitting it funny.

Gorgeous guitar man. I’d love to get my hands on a Flaxwood someday. More pics!! šŸ˜€

Looks fantastic – just heard and seen it in action on the pentatonic shapes lesson!

The material is I think a bit like graphite composite only instead of carbon they somehow break down real wood and mix it with (I think!) an epoxy type resin.

I’m really intrigued by what they are doing.

    Congrats Rick!

Great that you took some pics of it Rick!
Let me take some time to explain more about the process and
workings of the guitars for those interested.

The coloration on the headstock is the same as on the body (under the paint). It is a 80%+ spruce composite, with natural fibres such as hamp and Flax (hence the name) and a certain percentage of a resonant polymer binding agent. The colorations comes from the fact that they color the different wood mixtures before injection molding them. Flaxwood also have a prototype with a light beige neck (sort of vanilla fudge meets maple thing) with darker streaks. That will go into production in the future.

This particular patterning is called “Kiwi Natural Rock”. The is also a “black rock” finish where all the fibres are colored black, and thus the contrast is much lower and the neck looks more homogenous.
That color is what I have on my endorsement models.

Here’s some pics of the first endorsement model I received from Flaxwood, you can see the difference in headstock color. Also, you can see the body patterns being brought out by having the main spruce lightly yellowish in color, and then adding black to the other fibres for contrast. The color is most like the first picture, more red than orange,
but the other pics are somewhat more orange due to light, and RGB conversion on the internet.

    Thanks for the info Richard.

I love the body shape – just looks so inviting and comfortable. Definitely gonna have to check one of these out! I think they’ve just tied up with a UK dealer too so hopefully trying one out will be a possibility fairly soon.

    Thanks for the insight Richard.

Rick, it looks like your model is the one that’s showing on Flaxwood’s site header, right? Total beauty.
