Well, it’s been several years since I play guitar, but in all this time the one thing that i’ve noticed that I’ve always been bad at it’s TIMING! And going beyond playing guitar, it’s something that keeps showing off even when I’m not playing, like dancing, trying to improvise to improvise a vocal lick over a song in the radio, or something that’s got not some much in common with playing guitar and it’s pretty frustating for someone that is in the music vibe to not be able to be in time with pretty much EVERYTHING! Now, being aware of my own problem I’ve tried to do something about it (I’m currently taking percussion classes, and also recording makes you more aware of your own playing) but I’d like to know if some of you guys who have been thru this have some advice on getting better at timing, more than as a guitarist, as a musician.

    Cheers!:)

    Hey Nicolas.

Yeah, timing is certainly critical with music! I think it’s a wise choice for you to get involved in percussion. I’m a drummer as well, and when I started playing drums my sense of rhythm definitely improved overall. So yeah, definitely continue pursuing percussion and get lessons if you’re able.

We have a featured lesson up right now that can actually help you. Check this tutorial out: https://www.infiniteguitar.com/guitar-lessons.php?lessonid=1363

Make sure to practice with a metronome often. You need a reference to hold your rhythm accountable. 🙂
