Niiiiice! I got mine last year for Christmas, never ceases to amaze. What screen size? The 27″ one is monstrous.

It’s the 27″ and it is massive! The specs:

3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2560 x 1440 resolution
6GB memory (upgraded from 4GB)
1TB hard drive1
8x double-layer SuperDrive
ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics with 256MB

Stoked!!! Now I’ve NO excuse not to finish my album this year 😀

I am more jealous than you could ever imagine!! I just paid my tax bill – no toys for me!! BooHOO!
I can’t wait for that album dude. I’ve just finished some writing myself.

Very nice Rick!! That resolution has gotta look awesome. 27 inches eh? I have a 22 inch and I don’t know if I could ever go much bigger. Maybe I could though, I guess it depends on how far you sit from it.

Yeah, good point. I’m also getting a new desk which is essential for that reason. Looking forward to setting up my studio in my new home 🙂

Wow so I’m checking it out, and you can run Windows on it? That’s awesome. One of the things that’s always put me off Macs a little is compatibility issues with certain software. But if it runs Windows, that’d probably eliminate those problems entirely. Have they always run Windows or is this a new thing?

I may just have to consider a Mac next time I upgrade.

Boot Camp, which facilitates running Windows under a separate partition, has been around officially for a few years now (introduced in Leopard I think?), although I think it existed unofficially beforehand. You can buy virtualisation software like Parallels Desktop if you want to run Windows/Linux apps side-by-side with Mac applications. The performance isn’t as good this way though.

It’s been possible for some time now Sean.
I was going to install windows on my iMac back in 2007 but decided not to. This time round I want to use this iMac internet free (if a can resist the temptation that is) and try to just use it for mainly music purposes.

Speaking about monitor size, I use a dual monitor setup and find it much better than using a single large monitor. One advantage is when you maximize a window it fills up just the current monitor and not the entire screen space. No big deal here, just a personal preference. 🙂 Also comes in handy when you have 2 or more machines.

Congratulations!

27″ is quite big, but at the same time also really useful your working with the DAW of your choice. I guess you’ll use Logic with your new Mac? And get that album done! 😉

Thanks guys! The 27″ monitor is perfect for me.

Yes Max, I’ll be using Logic with the Apogee Duet interface and some plugins. I’ll be spending some time working on mic’ing up my amp to see if I can get the sounds I want. I’ve been spending some time with EZDrummer too and I’m really liking what I’m getting with the standard Rock kit.

Have you got DFH for EzDrummer? For the heavier stuff it’s fantastic. Oh, and I wouldn’t worry about keeping the Mac offline, I haven’t found any slowdown at all on my Mac so far, there’s no registry to get clogged up and you aren’t plastered with tracking cookies on every webpage you visit.

No I decided not to get it, just yet anyway, as from my stuff it’ll probably be a bit too heavy. I have the original DFHS for PC and even with low velocity values the samples sound quite heavy.

Ah sounds good, I’ve always wanted to keep 1 computer just for music use and not to be soiled by the internet, I’d like to keep it ‘pure’ if you know what I mean 😀
