    Hi,

I am a beginner at playing. I understand a lot of the basic concepts, but I haven’t quite mastered things yet. I am trying to play a song from off the internet and it has me confused. For example the song I am trying to play is Someday We’ll Know by New Radicals. Here is a sample tab I found: http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/n/new_radicals/someday_well_know_ver2_crd.htm

The first verse is the following:

    Bm7 C#m7 A
    464444 X46454 X02220
    1: Ninety miles outside Chicago

So my understanding is I am suppose to play a Bm7 a Cm7 (not sure why there is a #) there and an A chord. How am I suppose to know what the tempo and how to strum the chords? Is it just experimenting? Also what are those numbers below supposed to mean because they don’t correspond to the chords themselves. I have been told this should be easy to play, but I feel a bit lost.

There is no information on the tab as to how the rhythm and tempo goes. When using this kind of tab you have to listen to the song to get this correct. The numbers you refer to is indeed the chords and how to play them but I think there is a notation error on the Bm7. Normally Bm7 is x24232. The second chord is not a Cm7 but C#m7. It is two different chords a half step (one fret) apart. So the notation on this chord i correct.

Ok I understand. I don’t think I realized it was a barre chord.

Hi Straken ! The tricky thing with tabs is : – 1. Are they correct ? 2. No rhythm indications 3. Half the time no key indications !
I listened to a short piece of the song, and to my mind the tonal centre is round C#min (therefore you’ll have to think in terms of A Major). I have the feeling that these guys have tweaked their tuning a bit (Drop D ?). My way of figuring things out is to really listen to the bass and learn the sung melody and THEN work out the chords and their extensions.
