Literally cracking fretboard…

Forums Guitars, Gear, Software & Education Literally cracking fretboard…

As some of you know I recently bought a guitar off an auction on Ebay. I have constantly been a bit worried about the fretboard being very dry-ish, but I thought it didn’t matter much, cause it’s actually very good to play on. However, yesterday I noticed a fairly large crack on the fretboard. I suspect humidity playing a larger role in this one, and I know that it doesn’t cause much to the intonation, but cosmeticaly it still bothers me. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Hard to say what to do.

I think the best option would be to take it to a luthier, and have him repair it.

My guess is that he’d use a similar colored wood glue to seal the crack. You could probably do this yourself if you felt up to it. One of the most commonly used guitar glues is called tightbond, though there are other options out there. You’d want something with lots of penetrating ability.

you say teh fretboard is dry? first thing i would do is put some lemon oil on the fretboard. but not that much. the fretboard could have been cracked befor it was put on the guitar

Naeh, it was alright when I got it. I would have noticed the crack when I changed strings. It’s fairly visible.

    cracked fingerboard huh?
    I like =)
