Just watched your video and can’t see anything wrong with your picking technique that needs improving.
Maybe you meant were actually wanting to improve your phrasing (like the rest of us I’d guess) and learn interesting interesting licks and improvisation methods?

April 17, 2010 at 10:14 am #24486MandzParticipantIt’s warm-ish. Don’t know if the Icelandic ash cloud will affect the weather for the next few months/years.
April 10, 2010 at 2:12 pm #22595MandzParticipantI used to do this for a few songs with one of my old bands. I don’t really think the audience ever heard the difference though. sounded cool when I practiced it at home though 🙂

Hi Mandz, 🙂
Wouldn’t this work:
1.) Plug a 1-ft.-long 1/4″ patch-cable into the guitar-jack.
2.) Connect a 1/4″ female-to-female cable-coupler into the 1-ft. patch-cable.
3.) Plug the Vox Amplug into the other end of the female 1/4″ cable-coupler!Voila! 😀
The only issue then would be that the Amplug would “dangle” from the coupler, but I suppose you could then come up with some sort of “velcro-scheme” or double-sided tape perhaps to attach it to either your strap or your pants’-belt or something, right?!? 😉
Just an idea…After all, there’s nothing special abouit the Amplug’s 1/4″ tip, so it doesn’t have to be directly connected to the guitar itself. That’s why I suggested the extension! 😉
I figure these accessories total about $10. – $12. (USD), and that’s assuming that you don’t already have an unused 1-ft. patch-cable kicking around already! 😉
Best of luck bro! 😎

😉That was my first thought, but I was hoping there would be an alternative that would be an all in one solution. The sounds from the Vox are meant to be very good (certainly better than the Heap-O-Crap Danelctro Honeytone one I’ve already got), and more portable than my MicroBR.
Maybe I’ll just stick to the MicroBR and rechargable batteries.
February 18, 2010 at 4:14 pm #24239MandzParticipantHow would you plug this into a guitar with the jack recessed into the top of the guitar body? It’s the sort of tool I’d like to use but I have an S-series Ibanez Prestige and the jack is right underneath the bridge and I don’t think it’d fit.
February 11, 2010 at 3:22 pm #24189MandzParticipantSounds like it was a great show!
February 9, 2010 at 10:40 am #24167MandzParticipantI might mark someone down for sloppy technique (I am often guilty of sloppy playing) but “cheating”? Ludicrous.
I’ve watched Dragonforce live 3 times and Herman Li is massively overrated. He’s not any better on his Youtube videos. When playing live he’s a good entertainer. I very much enjoyed their high-energy performances (even with their out-of-time playing, wrong notes everywhere and out-of-tune bends and vibrato).
As a musician though, he’s not in a position to pass judgment upon anyone. Incredibly sloppy player who would sound much cleaner/better if he used a dampener. Sam Totman is cleaner, but still nothing to write home about.
January 30, 2010 at 11:11 am #24039MandzParticipantI love his solo album too. Haven’t heard any of his collaboration stuff. He’s like Satch but with even more technique at his disposal.
I’ve recently started to practice Andromeda (from Rick’s fantastic lesson) and it’s incredibly difficult. So far I can only do the first 4 bars. If I carry on at this rate I’ll be done in about 3 years 🙂
January 25, 2010 at 2:14 pm #24018MandzParticipantI’m pretty sure anybody who enjoys fusion will love every second of his playing. Like you say, it’s mainly jazzers who’ll be going along so it’s unlikely that there’ll be anybody there who doesn’t love the stuff. And GG being awesome at (practically) every guitar style will blow everybody away and his great sense of humour will endear him to everybody. I think I’m in the minority of shred-heads in not enjoying fusion for more than a few minutes.
I’ve seen him live so many times and sometimes I’ve been completely mesmerized, and other times just bored.
I’ve absolutely no doubt you’ll enjoy it all.
January 23, 2010 at 3:42 pm #24010MandzParticipantAs amazing as Guthrie is, and as much as I enjoy his Erotic Cakes album, I find his live stuff to be a bit boring after about 20mins. Maybe it’s because I just don’t enjoy his fusion jams very much. I saw him just before Xmas and among other tracks he did a Billy Cobham song with Dave Kilminster (who couldn’t seem to match Guthrie’s creativity live and kept playing over Guthrie instead of giving him space) and I was just wishing he’d get back to playing his own stuff. Dull, Dull, Dull. Technically and harmonically impressive, but just dull. I couldn’t count the number of people at this small gig visibly bored and waiting for something interesting for most of the gig. Didn’t help that the sound engineer did a poor job and Dave K was so much louder than everyone else.
Hopefully it will better for you.
I prefer when he does clinics/Q&As as he his an incredibly interesting teacher and can be very funny.
January 22, 2010 at 10:43 pm #24003MandzParticipantI’d like to see the GuitarPro file…
