Thanks. Yes, the mixing didn’t go too well. 🙁
I’m just beginning to record using a mic and preamp and still a lot to learn. I’ve decided to stop using my POD XT for a while. So its just a BOSS MT-2 pedal and a Marshall Amp. The guitar is a Jem-Jr.

Thanks for the suggestions.
Bill, that Guthrie video makes sense. I am going to learn some scale patterns, but music first!
Cheers!
August 9, 2011 at 4:54 pm #25759arc_of_descentParticipantNice Sean! We need more lessons from you!
August 9, 2011 at 3:55 pm #25758arc_of_descentParticipantReally nice. Were all your solos improvised?

Excellent cover Rohan, good to hear you playing again! Mix sounded great to me.
Thanks Sean. I have loads of covers on my Guitar TODO list, and learning to record an entire song as opposed to just the guitar solo is much more “less boring”!
May 29, 2011 at 7:11 pm #25642arc_of_descentParticipantSuperb man! Loved the part where you used the tremolo/whammy (whatever that hardware part is called). Have you heard the “The Loner” by Gary Moore? I thought you should have used this effect more in this solo. But nice!
April 25, 2011 at 8:00 am #25613arc_of_descentParticipantReally great stuff!
March 8, 2011 at 11:34 am #25409arc_of_descentParticipantHey Bill,
Thanks for watching!
I agree about the note-choices during the improvisation. And I’m seriously stuck. I’ve spent countless hours mindlessly jamming over backing tracks and it all sounds like sh&t at the end! 😉
But I love doing covers – gives you so much insight into the masters. Satriani is a great composer!
February 16, 2011 at 12:48 pm #25380arc_of_descentParticipantI really like your tone. Are you using a POD XT? If yes, would be great if you could share the settings.
Which backing track are you soloing over? There are so many to choose from for this competition!
January 14, 2011 at 2:22 pm #25270arc_of_descentParticipantHey Bill,
Do you have any specific remarks on the overall mix?

Rohan, 🙂
Congratulations on getting your original song recorded! Even though it may stilll be a “work-in-progress,” having a recording (IMO) is the best way to hear additional ideas and to get motivated to finish an idea too! 🙂
Best of luck bro, and excellent job overall! 😉

Thanks Bill, appreciate your time! I’m determined to treat this composition as a purely “transcribe yourself” exercise but all your points are worth more work (sometimes I really really hate playing Guitar) 🙁
I tried to concentrate more on the rhythmic aspects of this tune (i.e. 6/8) and see if I could maintain this throughout the entire song. Melodies can come later, no? I’m definitely going to be trying out a whole lot of variations. I’m slowly grasping the art of moving around audio regions to experiment around a song (thanks to some awesome software) and its much easier than I thought. :p
January 13, 2011 at 6:35 am #25265arc_of_descentParticipantHey Richard,
The intro improvisation at the beginning of the first video is superb! I’ll be honest and say I was all ears for your playing and completely ignored what you’re endorsing! ha ha When is your instructional video coming out?
January 9, 2011 at 1:11 pm #25258arc_of_descentParticipantReally good stuff. Loved your phrasing and you handled the latter part of the track pretty well. Congrats!
December 31, 2010 at 9:38 pm #25224arc_of_descentParticipantWelcome man! Valve software! F*7#! I’m still tripping on Half-Life 2! I’m not a gamer but HL and HL2 are the only games I’ve seriously played.
Related to Guitar playing… its simple, don’t make any plans, any schedules, etc… just play Guitar everyday. 😉

Hi Rohan, 🙂
It’s been awhile since I’ve corresponded with you, so I hope all is well! 😉
Keep up the good work my friend, and let me know if you agree with the spots I outlined for you to check-out, OK? 😀
TTYS!
~Bill Meehan~ 😀
Damn you’re good. You’re a serious Guitar doc who I’d pay “money” to improve myself.
Believe me, all the points you mentioned were known to me before I recorded this take. But I’m stuck, I don’t how to improve! *&*^^&%^$^! Does this make sense? 😉
