Had a few extra minutes so I thought I would introduce myself.

I’m 41 and played guitar about 20 years ago. I’ve been playing again for about two years. I have more technique than musical talent but I love playing the guitar! It is tough as I have had Parkinson’s disease for 5 years. I figured I’d better try again before I the disease stops me. I really love all styles but I’m partial to Metal and Country and Hard Rock. I guess I hope to train my ear, get better timing and learn some songs.

Hope to hear from others about anything guitar!.

BTW – Through necessity, I’ve come up with a bunch of ways to make holding a pick easier. Some work great, others not so great! So if you have a problem with being able to hold a pick, I can possibly help. I guess it’s sort of turned into a hobby.

Great read man. And major props for pushing through Parkinsons and still progressing with your playing. What kind of techniques did you develop with pick-holding, and what pick brand(s) do you use?

Oh, man. It changes all of the time. My hand just feels different every day so what feels good one day feels absolutely foreign the next. 3 mm big stubby, fred Kelley slik picks and bumblebee. One of the best that really helps is the Sik-Pik. It has a twisted tip that really helps with my stiffness on the upstoke. V-picks are also cool.

I have basically experimented with attaching any pick to my thumb or index finger. It helps relax the hand. This is important to me because stiffness and slowness are my biggest Parkinson’s symptoms. Try playing some Yngwie licks with that combo!!! Some of my contraptions are purchased and some are modified. Some are my own design. I’ll have to post pictures soon.

I look forward to learning some new stuff!

    Hey Craig,

Wow man, that is really inspirational stuff. Yeah I was going to ask if you tried V-Picks. When I was young I actually went to the same church as Vinni, the guy behind those picks. Cool dude!

Yeah man post pics when you can!
