    Hi guys,

It will be hard to narrow it down to just one band.

Here’s my classically based rock band:

    Drums: Neil Peart
    Bass: Geddy Lee
    Keyboards: Keith Emerson
    Vocals: Steve Perry
    Guitar: Yngwie Malmsteen

    Here’s my progressive rock band:

    Drums: Mike Portnoy
    Bass: Chris Squire
    Keyboards: Jordan Rudess
    Vocals: James Labrie
    Guitars: John Petrucci

    Here’s my fusion-based band:

    Drums: Chad Wackerman
    Bass: Stanley Clarke
    Keyboards: Jan Hammer
Guitars: Allan Holdsworth or Guthrie Govan

These are just off the top of my head. There are countless ways I could configure a dream band.

    Hey Frank, šŸ™‚

I love Yngwie as much as ANYONE, but I’m NOT crazy about YJM replacing Alex Lifeson in your “beefed-up Rush band!” – LOL! šŸ˜€

Also, I think Chris Squire’s affinity for VODKA would turn-off the ultra-focused and relatively sober Dream Theater that you used for the progressive-rock dream-lineup!!! – LOL! šŸ˜€

Just kidding of course…except that from what I’ve heard, Chris Squire DOES actually drink more than all of Dream Theater’s members combined! – LOL!

    Hi Bill,

Affinities for extracurricular activities aside, I am reminded of Squires’ bass lines in certain songs that compelled me to choose him, lol.

Yngwie is the quintessential neo-classical electric guitarist in my opinion, and I want to see him in a band of heavyweights where he is only part of the optimal whole. The Rush rhythm section should not be broken up under any circumstances, lol.

    I would have to pick:

    Drums: Kofi Baker
Bass: Jaco Pastorius or Rob Pagliari
Rhythm/Lead Guitars: Guthrie Govan and Shawn Lane
    Keyboards: Jan Hammer or Vangelis
    Singing: who needs singers?

    Guys,

OK, so my disclaimers are that I’m gonna break down some stylistic boundaries and combine some cats that probably wouldn’t collaborate! (Since I tend to dig lots of different stuff, why not toss it all into the “musical-stew” for an amalgamation of my favorites!) Also, since we’ve lost so many great musicians over the years, (some prematurely for various tragic reasons) I thought it only fair to have THREE Dream-Band Lineups! First, a lineup of THOSE NOT WITH US ANYMORE. Secondly, a lineup of musicians based on their TECHNICAL MERIT. Thirdly, a lineup of musicians whose STYLES I dig a lot!

OK, so here’s my “Dream-Band Lineup” of those NOT with us anymore:

    Drums – John Bonham
    Bass – Jaco Pastorius
    Rhythm Guitar – Jimi Hendrix
Lead Guitars – Shawn Lane & Django Reinhardt
    Piano – Art Tatum

Now, here’s my “Dream-Band Lineup” based on Technical Merit:

    Drums – Dennis Chambers
    Bass – John Pattitucci
    Rhythm Guitar – Eric Johnson
Lead Guitars – Allan Holdsworth & Steve Morse
    Piano – Chick Corea

Finally, my “Dream-Band Lineup” based on Style:

    Drums – Bernard Purdie
    Bass – John Paul Jones
Rhythm Guitars – Steve Lukather & Keith Richards
Lead Guitars – Jeff Beck & Michael Schenker
    Piano – Herbie Hancock

I had a tough time narrowing down my beloved guitarists, (thus the 4-axe lineups!!!)
but I had fun with this, and it required alot of thought! Peace.

    hmmmm right now I’d say….

    Vocals: Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge)
Guitars: Keith Merrow and Misha (Periphery)
    Drums: Alex Rudinger
    Bass: Nolly (Periphery)
…..and Hans Zimmer for a bunch of epic background synth/sound design

    Drums ā€“ Dennis Chambers
