Composing Modern Metal: Intro

Mike Salow 210 lessons

I'm sorry to say it, but we will not be learning any guitar in this video......yet (that comes in Tutorial 3 of this series!)

BUT! We will be learning how I approach composing and recording my ideas for my metal band, "Ideology".

With a few simple tools and guidelines, it can be very simple and quick to record your own material and have it be high quality. To get started gear-wise, I would recommend the following:

First off, make sure your computer can support the recording software and has the power to use a DAW.

- Some sort of DAW (Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, Reaper (it's FREE) etc...)
- An Audio Interface (Mbox, Presonus, etc...) NOTE: The Eleven Rack acts as an interface
- Amp Modeler for silent recording (Eleven Rack, POD, AxeFx, etc...)
- Midi Drum Program (Superior Drummer, EZ Drummer, etc...)

Last but not least, you should have a decent pair of speakers and headphones.
