    Hello All, ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, I still haven’t solved my lack of video-camera-equipment, but I did just make an “audio-only” recording of me playing along to Richard Lundmark’s backing-track from his “Making a Song Tutorial!” I told Richard at the time he released that tutorial that I really loved the tune (even though he admitted that it wasn’t done yet.) For those not familiar with it, it’s an unnamed tune (Richard referred to it as “sort of John Mayer-ish” without lyrics/vocals – for now.) I told Richard that I thought this tune could eventually have some serious commercial/crossover appeal! Anyways, since I couldn’t get Richard’s neat guitar-melody out of my head, I did what needed to be done…I recorded a version of it myself (along with his provided backing-track from the tutorial.) ๐Ÿ˜Ž

If you watch Richard’s original tutorial (which I highly recommend for two reasons: 1.) You’ll learn about his approach to “song-development” and “guitar-arranging” – BRILLIANT! and 2.) You’ll hear a more accomplished, more relaxed, and confident musician playing a tune he himself created (instead of me! – LOL! :o)

You’ll probably notice that I played the two main-melody sections pretty much verbatim, without variation. However, for the solo-section (I really liked Richard’s solo too!) I played the first say 70% of the solo note-for-note like Richard, then I split-off into “my own thing” near the end! ๐Ÿ˜‰

BTW, this track was recorded in two passes: 1.) from beginning to the solo-section and 2.) from the solo to the end.

    Equipment used for this track:

2007 Olympic White Fender American Series Stratocaster, retrofitted with Fender Custom Shop (SRV-approved!) “Texas-Special” single-coil pickups. The entire track was played on the neck-pickup only. (BTW, I’m loving this guitar lately for non high-gain applications!) ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Line6 POD-XT Live (using the Matchless DC-30 amp-model – approx. 50%-gain; some tape-delay; and a bit of compression.) The reverb was added later on, inside the digital-recorder, during mixdown.

The guitar’s pre-amped & effected signal was then piped (in stereo) onto tracks 3 & 4 of my BOSS Micro-BR digital 4-track recorder. (BTW, I had already recorded Richard’s backing-track in stereo onto tracks 1 & 2.) This allowed me to balance the levels, EQ, etc, of the backing-track and the stereo guitar-track which I was recording later on during mixdown. I then mixed the 4-tracks down to 2-track stereo within the BOSS Micro-BR using it’s onboard mastering-tools. (Nothing fancy here, just a bit of EQ and compression – and that overall reverb/environment I alluded to earlier.) Once the mix was created in the form of a stereo .mp3-file, I was then able to transfer it (via USB) to my laptop directly, from which I created the public file-hosting link shown below:

    http://www.mediafire.com/file/2kmmzmmmqyv/RL_BM_01.MP3

I’d really appreciate any feedback you guys might have. Thanks so much! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks to Richard Lundmark (of course!) and to all the other instructors and members of Infinite Guitar! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

    Happy Holidays Everyone! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

    Hey Manny, ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks bro! That means a lot to me! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m really digging that Fender Strat I used on this (with the Fender Custom Shop – Texas Special single-coil PUP’s)…NICE! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

BTW, I checked your old “golf-press!” That was very impressive indeed bro! You could “take it low” my friend! – LOL! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

See ya around the site! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Hey Elliot, ๐Ÿ™‚

    Thanks bro!

Considering your immense talent/abilities, that means a lot to me and my BOSS Micro-BR!!! (LOL!) BTW, the Micro-BR was a bit cryptic to learn (basically because there’s SO MUCH you can do with it (once you get the hang of it.) ๐Ÿ˜‰

Can’t wait to hear YOUR next post Elliot! You rip-it-up!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

    Happy Holidays! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hey etc.29, ๐Ÿ™‚

(D’ya like my abbreviation of your screen-name?!? :p – LOL!) Thanks so much for your compliments. ๐Ÿ˜‰

BTW, I agree with you regarding the song itself, and I told Richard about how I felt too. It’s an excellent song that just needs to be finished. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I wish it was my song, because as I learned and recorded it, I was getting/hearing all sorts of arrangement ideas (mostly pertaining to pacing; dynamics; instrumentation, but also I had specific “TAG” ideas and a somewhat un-related (yet cohesive and interesting…I think?) “Outro” idea too! It’s not my song though (as much as I wish I had thought of it!) so it’s not my place to start fiddling with it…(UNLESS, Richard Lundmark asks me personally…in which case I would JUMP at the opportunity – LOL!) ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Thanks again! ( etc…..etc…..etc! ) ๐Ÿ˜Ž

    Hello All, ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ll probably start a new thread regarding this/my latest idea, but here it is: I just found a recording/compilation of some Christmas-tunes I recorded/performed (mostly) on acoustic guitar from a few years back. Some of it is OK, but some of it I wish was better (story-of-my-life! – LOL!) Anyways, I’m thinking of sharing a few of the performances with y’all! (I’ll start a new thread and post a link as soon as I convert them to .mp3’s and upload them to my latest file-sharing/hosting “site-of-choice!”) ๐Ÿ˜‰

This all said, DO NOT expect a level of quality associated with the likes of Rick Graham’s nylon/classical holiday-favorites! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ My stuff is either simple steel-string solo-fingerstyle or multi-acoustic-guitar/overdub recordings!

    Rick Graham/Eric Johnson/Tommy Emmanuel/Andy McKee I AM NOT!!! LOL! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

    Stay tuned (if interested…) ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Thanks for your time! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

    hey Bill!
I’ll respond here instead of keeping it in the private mail.

Sorry about the long delay responding here!
Holidays, tons of gigs, new job (business administration, killing me with over-time atm).

Anyways bro, thanks for honoring me with your own version of this tune!!
Before going into your actual version, let me just reflect upon one thing.

I have had tunes of mine covered at times in the past as well, and I really love listening to such things,
Because it kind of takes me to a different place as a listener, rather than a player.
Hearing oneโ€™s own work, played by someone elseโ€™s hands, really makes me here everything in a different
light so to say. Things that as I’m playing them myself just seem to pass by me as sort of insignificant,
all of a sudden pops out at me like “man, that’s sounds really cool, I like that!”

Not sure I can really explain it better than that, but it’s sort of an out-of-body experience in a way,
makes you appreciate completely different things about your own playing, and specially you get a feeling of
how an audience must actually perceive your lines and ideas.

I sometimes get students that records covers of my tunes, but usually they are not on a level of maturity in their playing that I can appreciate their cover as a “Musical” interpretation of my work.

Your version certainly did though man. I loved the tone, and did not think it was overly distorted (as you mentioned in the mail), Strats just seem to be so much more dynamic when distorted, me like!
I liked how you re-phrased the tune a bit here and there, and made your “own” thing with it,
and BY ALL MEANS, please make your own song with it. If this little (so far anyways) snippet of a song can get your creative process geared up, that’s EXCATLY what the aim of the lesson was to begin with!
I’m looking forward to hearing where you might take this! And, don’t be surprised if I end up “stealing” some ideas from you for the final version hehehe

    Hey Richard, ๐Ÿ™‚

Wow, I am honored indeed! You’re definitely a straight-shooter/truthful, so I know that you’re NOT just saying these things to make me feel good, and instead you must really like what I did?!? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ That means SO MUCH to me dude! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I have a lot of respect for your abilities and intellect, so needless to say, I am appreciative. ๐Ÿ˜Ž However, this just tells me that I need to work even harder, because for one thing, I know that I can work harder, and secondly, I need to embrace each and every day I’m alive as an opportunity to “play/record/teach/listen-to” music as much as I can!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks again for taking the time to listen and offer your insights, and I’ll certainly let you know if I come up with anything else to add to your tune! ๐Ÿ˜‰

P.S: Congratulations on your business pursuits too! ๐Ÿ˜Ž I know that you’ve gone to university and worked hard towards those things, but it’s cool to hear that you are now “in-the-field,”so-to-speak.” My guess is that all those hours/days that your business work pulls you away from your music/guitar, the more you’ll eventually appreciate the music/guitar when you do have time for it, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you write a bunch of new “great songs” and/or if you even just become a more accomplished player (not sure how much room there is for you to improve in THAT area though?!? You’re already a monster… – LOL!) Back in the day, (between 1985-1994) I was a computer engineer, and all I ever thought about while I was at my engineering job was what I was gonna do as soon as I got out of there that night with my music (whether it was band-practice, or recording, or even just woodshedding!) Don’t be surprised if you get those feelings after a while. I think it can be a good/healthy thing BTW! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

    Best of luck bro! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

    Hey Bill,

Im following your lead with writing in paragraphs because it looks so good haha. I really enjoyed your song, the tone, the mix, the playing, everything! I especially liked the licks at the end. Very tasty and fitting for the song.

    Once again, excellent job

    Ryan
