    Bill,

Of course I remember you as well as your shop in Woburn. And I also remember your being present at the Tool concert in Manchester, NH in Aug 2009 which I and the Mrs. also attended!
I’ve been scarce these days because after my wife lost her job/laid off this past Dec. I opted to pull my membership and revert to the Basic membership here. Most unfortunate but one has to do what one has to do, no?

Anyway, when I’m in better financial straits I will definitely keep in mind your shop and the Custom shop dealings.

    Thanks for the info!

But, but, but billmeedog, I thought you wrote you were buying the guitar for Rick for his birthday. Have you reneged?

PS Bill. My birthday is 15 Sept. I hear those Flaxwoods are pretty neat guitars!!!!!! ;);)

Something similar, unfortunately, happened back in February when that aircraft crashed into a house just outside Buffalo, NY. One of the passengers who perished on the flight had lost her husband in the Twin Tower destruction on 9/11.

Fate. It’s there waiting for everyone. sometimes in some very odd ways.

When I opened this thread back in March (when it was still freezing here in New England) I opened it with my favorite solo being Buckethead’s solo on Nottingham Lace.
Although I still consider that solo to be superb I have since changed my mind. (Now there’s a shock.)

    Buckethead – Siege Engine
    David Gilmour – Comfortably Numb
Robert Fripp – Fracture (With King Crimson)
Ritchie Blackmore – Highway Star (Live version – Made In Japan)
Richard “Dickie” Betts – In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed
Tony Iommi – Over and Over

There. That makes 6 solos. Not 10!!!!!! :D:D:D

I know this may seem callous but I was not at all surprised or shocked by his death.
I suppose he was talented (didn’t like any of his music) but his lifestyle, IMHO, was eventually going to
catch up with him. I feel badly that he died but no more so than when I hear of anyone else’s untimely
death ie, I do not differentiate between anyone’s untimely death: they are all equally sad.

Thanks for all the tips everyone. I solved the issue myself by, as mentioned in previous posts, adjusting
each individual string’s height and intonation. I still, however, find it a bit odd that changing the brand of strings seems to cause such problems. If the string gauge is the same between brands I don’t really see
what difference it should have. I mean gauge is gauge, no?

Currently I’m listening to the new release by Amorphis called ‘Skyforger’. Nice melodic Metal!
Sean, have you given this CD a listen to?!!!

    sean,

I agree. I gave it a listen to, once so far, and was not at all impressed with the last 3 songs. The first 3 are really good though. But, it might just be that it’s one of those CDs you have to listen to a few times before it sinks in. I’m willing to try a few more time.

Hey Richard! Do you know any place here in the U.S. which might have stock of the
Blackstar HT-5? I’ve searched everywhere and can’t seem to find anyone selling it.
    Thanks.

Well, since you can’t think of a name which can be derived from what you are doing, why not call your program “Idiom”?!!!!!

Well, at the very real risk of giving away my age, I’ll ask who you think I rooted for in the Super Bowl? (I became a Pittsburgh Steeler fan at the age of 10 in 1967 and have been an avid/rabid fan ever since!!!!! ) Oddly, I was brought up in NYC where all my friends were
either NY Jets or Giant fans. And although I do live in New England/CT I still think the
    Patriots suck!!!!!

    Go Steelers!!!!

    Bill,

No, unfortunately, I’m not too young to remember the vaporizers you’re referring to. (51 years old and counting. Backwards of course!)
I’m sure i’ll find something adequate at the local Wal-Mart.
BTW: I did purchase another amp. In lieu of the Fender DEC you referred to in a previous posting I
went with a Marshall MG15DFX. So far I like it. It doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles but it does what I want.
    Thanks again.

Thanks again for the info Bill.

Yes, the room (and our entire house for that matter) are extremely dry. We have forced air heating which doesn’t help. The usual humidity level in our home is around 15-20%.
So I can see your point. (The instrument used to measure humidity is called a hydrometer. A barometer measures air pressure!!!!)

The frets don’t seem to be protruding that much. But enough to cause me to have
acquired several nicks and scratches on my left hand.

I will be off to Wal-Mart after work today to buy a humidifier. (Gee, my guitars now require there very own humidifier. Wow!!!!!)

    Thanks again for your help.

    Bill,

I believe the interview with Ron Thal you’re referring to is in Guitar World. I subscribe
to the rag and read an in-depth interview with him and believe it’s the same.
Maybe Axl will just go away!

Actually I’ve already ordered a practice amp. After much consideration I decided to go with
the Marshall MG15DFX. It’s small enough where I won’t get in “trouble” with my wife and/or neighbors but offers the features – but not many – that I’m looking for. Well see.

On a completely unrelated note I’d like to ask you for your opinion on something. My wife was kind enough to give me a Squier Vintage Modified Strat for Christmas. I’ve read reviews of the guitar and the overwhelming opinion seems to be that it is a very, very nice guitar especially for the money. (~$300). I concur with these opinions as I find the sound
extremely pleasing. (Subjectively speaking of course!)
I’m actually thinking of bringing it to the local music shop and having a basic set up done on it. I don’t trust myself enough to do this and would rather pay the $$$ to have a professional do it. HOWEVER, in the interim I’ve noticed an oddity, shall we say, with the neck. When I first got the guitar the frets were very smooth and seemed well dressed.
Since then each fret, when running my hand along the sides of the neck, seem to have
become almost sharper. So much so that when playing they tend to create blisters and/or small cuts on my hands. This was not the case when I first received the guitar.
Not knowing that much about electric guitars, is it possible that the frets have moved in some way? I know that might sound bizarre but I’m trying to figure out WHY frets which were so smooth and properly dressed at first, have become almost ragged on the edges.
I treat all my equipment with care so it’s not like a did something bad to it!
Is having the frets “dressed” something expensive to have done. I mean, I really do enjoy
playing the Squier but if having the frets redone is something cost prohibitive then I guess I’ll have to live with it.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks much in advance, again!
