Improv Techniques - Creating Your Own Pulse - Groups of 3

Here we see groupings of three eigth notes (not to be confused with triplets) being played to a straight four feel.

Due to the meter being cut off each time (when only playing the sequence for as many times as one bar will allow) the three meter is cut off after a little more than two repetitions. Let's demonstrate what this example will sound like played for a total of two or more bars, instead. It can get a little confusing, so make sure you maintain the thought-process of straight 8ths as opposed to whatever grouping you're playing at any time. A good way to maintain your composure is to practice by accenting the down beat of every quarter or half note.
