4th Voicings - String Set 3-2-1

Mike Salow 210 lessons

One thing I'd like to point out right way is that in the examples I've excluded the voicings based on string set 3-4-5 and set 4-5-6. I've done this for two reasons:

#1. I think one of the most important things for any student to do is to be able to teach themselves using the tools the teacher has given them. After going over these videos you should be able to figure out the rest of the 4th voicing on your own. It's labeled advanced for a reason. ;)

#2. I never use the voicings on these string sets. Mainly because they sound too muddy for my taste. (that doesn't mean you shouldn't learn them on your own)

Back to the voicings shown in this video...

One thing I'd like you to notice right away is that we are only using 3 different shapes, one of which is used 5 times. Shapes 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7 all use the same shape and the other two are both slightly different. Noticing this will help you to memorize the shapes. Also, knowing the fret board well will really help to use these shapes on the fly in any key.
