7th Chord Embellishments in R&B - Intro

It's about time we have an R&B guitar lesson! And in this tutorial we're going to focus on R&B embellishments on two common 7th chord shapes. Over the last couple of years, this style of guitar playing has become popularized by players like Isaiah Sharkey and Mateus Asato, to name a couple.

So if you were to try to learn this style, what would be a good place to start? Well, one place might be here, with two common 7th chord voicings:

1) a drop 2 major 7 (5th string root)
2) a drop 2 minor 7 voicing (also 5th string root).

We then look at how the pinky comes into play when seeking out standard embellishments that one might hear in this style.

Overall a pretty simple concept once you get the hang of it. After we talk a little about the chords we'll then follow it up with a song example using both voicings and embellishments in an R&B/Hip Hop style.

Hope you enjoy!
