'In the style of' Andy McKee - Part 1

Rick Graham 210 lessons

Welcome to part 1!

Lets look at how the guitar is tuned:

6=D

5=A

4=D

3=G

2=A

1=E

I have chosen to notate this piece in 4/4 as opposed to 2/4 for ease of score writing. However, what I have done is divide the bar into 2 beats with each beat in groups of 4 8th notes.

The opening figure is one which recurrs throughout the piece so it is important that you pay close attention to it.

If you are new to the percussive techniques employed by modern acoustic players it may feel quite unusual to start with but persevere and it can yield great results. I would advise you to practice the technique seperately until you feel confident enough to begin to incorporate it within the piece.

The eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed that I am using a thumbpick here but using your thumb alone is absolutely fine. I find that, as I am missing a decent thubmnail at the moment, the thumbpick gives a brighter attack.
