Hybrid Riffing - Introduction

Chris Feener 256 lessons

Hey everyone! This tutorial is based around a technique that I've found becoming more and more predominant in my rhythm playing, and I've had a few questions regarding the use of this technique - that technique being hybrid picking (incorporating pick-hand fingers, as well as the pick itself). I'll begin by addressing the issue - skipping strings to incorporate higher notes during top-string oriented riffs.

Under the Etude tab, you will find 4 exercises.

Practice each exercise until you reach maximum cleanliness, the more drastic the string-skip, the more difficult that task becomes. Take it slow. Make use of the palm of your pick-hand, as well as your fret-hand index finger (it remains in a bar shape to avoid unwanted noise from strings both above and below the targeted hybrid note).
